Lords of Las Vegas Author
Lords of Las Vegas is written by Kurt Divich, a lifelong Las Vegan who has worked as a writer his entire professional life. In addition to writing Lords, Divich is also the author of the The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, A Dream in the Desert. Both were published through Stephens Press.
“It took me a decade to take this story from concept to the book readers will discover today,” says Divich. “I knew I had a story I wanted to tell but I had to wait on other elements within myself to arrive. I needed to be a dad, to understand that deep connection between a father and a daughter so that I could insert that element into the plot line. And I needed to stand still and watch more human drama play out around me in Las Vegas and ask myself, how can I take the essence of human crisis and triumph and create characters that were compelling and meaningful?”
Divich will tell you that Lords was inspired greatly by the film “Crash” where every character is connected or has some impact on the other characters. “Everyone matters in Lords,” Divich states. “Every character has their own story to tell… an agenda, an objective, a need. But when you least expect it, someone you might not have noticed from an early chapter proves to be very important to another character at a very critical moment.”
Lifelong Las Vegans will recognize true Las Vegas locations and themes but Divich believes the book’s story is relevant anywhere. “Lords is about loyalty, honor, integrity, and how expensive those things can be to keep in our society and culture. Vegas provides a wonderful backdrop on which these virtues are both tested and destroyed. I think my readers will find it very, very interesting.”
Divich’s next work, Seeds of the Beast, is a unique exhibit of historical fiction that juxtaposes the experiences of a young man trying to survive a violent urban high school in 1980s North Las Vegas with those of a father who narrowly escaped a massacre during World War II in occupied Eastern Europe.
Kurt Divich resides in Las Vegas with his wife Tami and their four daughters where he coaches youth soccer and helps large and small businesses communicate with the public through his company, Integrity Media.
